There is something in the air. A general feeling. If you make things for the web, you feel it too. The stakes are higher now. We care more. Somewhere in the past few months, this community has realized that even though the web as a medium is young, it is composed of adults. We’ve got pretty good hunches about what works. We know where things break. The tools aren’t perfect, but they never will be. The conversation has gotten more loaded, more serious, more inspiring: how can we be valuable? What can we do that no one else can do? How can we use the web to help all of us live better? It’s no longer only about making things for a network of computers: it’s about making things for the fabric that connects all of us. It’s not bits and bytes, it’s people and places. It’s not eyeballs, it’s faces. This is serious, and this is inspiring. Never before at any point in history has the potential impact of an individual following a desire path been so… incredible.
